Sunday 22 March McLaren Falls Park – Kaimai Ranges G1+
McLaren Falls Park is 190 hectares of parkland set alongside Lake McLaren, not far from Tauranga. It is home to one of the best botanical collections of trees in NZ.
On our arrival we will stop to view the falls. We may even be there for the opening of the dam, which takes place on Sundays for white water rafters and kayakers. Hopefully we might see some Autumn colour in some of the trees. We are planning to follow the loop track through the park, which includes the Waterfall Track and Nikau Track, with a climb to the top paddocks over Pin Oak Campsite
We continue through Ponga Grove, following the Pine Tree Knoll track to the top of the hill, a good place to have a break and enjoy the scenery before going down the Sunrise track to the beautiful Lakeside track and on to Cherry Bay.
After our walk we should have time for a coffee or an ice cream at the nearby cafe.
Depart: 8am Return: 4pm approx.
Meet: Community Living Trust car park on 180 Collingwood St, Hamilton;
Cost: $20 paid CASH direct to driver
