Trip information, past trips and contacts for Wanderers Tramping Club

Tramp with the wanderers!

You are looking at the revised web site of the Wanderers Tramping Club, The club decided in late 2025 to stop being an incorporated society, and this has led to important changes to the way we operate.

We really believe in tramping with a club!

  • When you come with us you have no need to organise transport, and when trips start and end at different places that can be an issue for private tramps.
  • All trips are thoroughly researched beforehand, usually having been walked by the leaders within a few weeks of the trip.
  • First aid kits, personal locator beacons, and offline phone maps are carried on all trips.
  • Leaders and members continuously check on everyone in the group to ensure they are coping and stay in contact.

We email reminders before each trip, containing a description of the trip, and links to recently updated content on the web site.

Tramping is a team activity!

  • Arrive at the carpark with 10 minutes to spare
  • You may offer your car for carpooling. If you prefer not to drive both ways, others may be able to drive your car.
  • When tramping, maintain communication with trampers ahead and behind, adjusting pace if needed.
  • Don't leave the group.
  • The person in the front must stop at every decision point or track junction to regroup and let the leader make any decision.
  • Speak up if the pace is too fast or if you have concerns (e.g. need a drink or take a layer off).
  • If going off the track (e.g. for toilet), inform someone and leave your pack at the point of departure.
  • Support new members, each other, and the leaders throughout the tramp

Food and gear

  • Carry enough water for the trip. Summer long trips need at least 500ml.
  • We normally stop for morning tea and lunch
  • A couple of muesli bars or equivalent are good in emergencies
  • Boots or strong shoes are almost always required
  • A parka or similar is advisable to cope with wind as well as rain
  • Pack spare clothing in the car for changing into at the end of the trip and plastic bag for dirty boots

General information

Joining the Wanderers. We no longer have a membership fee, but we encourage people who want to join us to contact us by email so we can keep you up to date with late breaking  trip changes

Emergency form It is a long while since any one has been in need of intensive care, but just in case it happens to you we ask all trampers to carry with them in an accessible place in their pack a completed emergency form, which you can find here. Having a list of medical conditions and medications will allow medical staff in an emergency to avoid giving inappropriate care.
